The world's forests don't just provide us with ingredients for our products — they're basically the lungs of the planet. We know we have not just a big impact on the world, but a responsibility to make sure we do right for the many communities where we work and live. We source many of our key ingredients from tropical countries, and we’ve taken bold action to prevent deforestation and its impact on local communities.
Mars has worked with our industry peers and local governments to create partnerships aimed at ending deforestation in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, where we source much of our cocoa. We also have examined our supply chains and their practices closely, as well as the ingredients we use, and are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by setting rigorous standards for our suppliers. This includes not just how our ingredients are grown and sourced, but also how people and the land are treated in the process.
While these changes may not happen immediately, we’re taking responsibility now to set the standards to help us protect the forests of tomorrow, with the hard work we do today. Our efforts to improve breeding and production techniques for key crops, along with our pioneering agroforestry work, is a great start and we are optimistic others will take inspiration to make bold changes as well.
